ISL Director, Jim Hartman – Guest on the NC Manufacturing Extension Partnership podcast: “Clocking In – Voices of NC Manufacturing”
The North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP) provides manufacturing extension services that enhance the productivity, innovative capacity and technological performance of North Carolina based manufacturing firms. NCMEP also works to strengthen the global competitiveness of small- and medium-sized manufacturers.
The Industrial Solutions Laboratory (ISL) at UNC Charlotte’s William States Lee College of Engineering is a NC MEP partner organization. In its partner role, ISL uses grant money provided by NC MEP to subsidize our senior design program costs, so that we can expand our participation to smaller manufacturing companies who otherwise would not be able to participate in the program. Senior design projects work on a design challenge from the industry partner and the output of their efforts is given to the participating company at the end of the two semester project. Examples of the types of manufacturing projects done for NC MEP supported companies include new or modified product designs, fixtures to improve manufacturing productivity/safety, material handling systems, automation of testing operations, sensor usage for manufacturing feedback and design improvements in production equipment.
