Senior Design Team Presents at Smart Cities Connect Conference
During the Spring 2019 semester, the NVDA_DETEC team was invited to participate in and demo at Smart Cities Connect in Denver, Colorado. Smart Cities Connect is a conference sponsored by the NSF and US Ignite for city leaders and policy makers around the globe to discover new and emerging technologies that facilitate smart and connected environments in their communities.
At this event, they had the opportunity to participate in the NSF Smart & Connected Communities Primary Investigator meeting. In this meeting, investigators discussed progress on current projects, introduced newly funded projects, and had an opportunity to participate in round table discussions on societal opportunities and challenges. As part of this meeting, the team was able to present their research during the poster exposition. The poster was both designed and presented in cooperation with University partners in the Criminology department and the Director of Research and Outreach. As part of the Conference, the NVDA_DETEC had the opportunity to run a live demonstration of their system, which was a huge success. During the live demonstration, they got the chance to speak with NSF Program Directors David Corman and Ralph Wachter about their research, and they were both pleased with the team’s progress and excited for its future developments.
Many city leaders showed interest in incorporating the technology developed by the team into their cities, and several businesses focusing in artificial intelligence and smart devices expressed interest in partnering with or incorporating the technology into their products for smart security, smart transportation, and other smart infrastructure applications for national and international communities.
