Monroe Science Center fields Senior Design-created museum exhibit sponsored by the Bosch Community Fund

In November 2023, the Bosch Community Fund awarded a grant to the Industrial Solutions Lab (ISL) to sponsor an engineering Senior Design project focused on creating a STEM-related exhibit for a local STEM outreach effort. For this purpose, ISL partnered with the Monroe Science Center (MSC).
MSC proposed the idea of creating a STEM exhibit that illustrates the science behind earthquakes. In January 2024, ISL commissioned a student team to undertake this project. Working with the museum and funded by Bosch, the student team designed and built the exhibit during the spring and fall 2024 semesters. The team developed an earthquake simulation shaker table where children could build block structures and subject them to varying levels of simulated earthquakes to see how their structures fare. This interactive experience provides museum attendees the opportunity to learn more about earthquakes and the mitigation strategies used by builders.

The engineering student team successfully demonstrated the exhibit at the UNC Charlotte Senior Design Expo on December 6, 2024. Later that month, the student team turned the exhibit over to MSC for display.
ISL would like to thank the Bosch Community Fund for their generous financial sponsorship and the Monroe Science Center for their participation with the engineering student team!
